6.b) Staff Report-Lilleskogen Strategic Action Plan STAFF REPORT Date of Meeting: May 5, 2014 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Judi Negus, Office Assistant Re: Lilleskogen Strategic Action Plan Updates Background The Parks and Recreation Committee created and approved the Lilleskogen Park Restoration Strategic Action Plan to use as a guide that identifies goals and timelines for the restoration and development of Lilleskogen Park. Issue Should the Parks and Recreation Committee make proposed changes to the approved Strategic Action Plan? Proposal Details Tim Kieffer and I met with Janie O’Connor, Karen Schik, and Cristina de Sobrino on April 18 to clarify the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails’ role for Lilleskogen Park butterfly garden. Included is a copy of the minutes from the April 18 meeting provided by Janie O’Connor. During our meeting the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails requested we update our Strategic Action Plan to remove “Friends” from the action steps under the Completion of Gravel Parking Lot and replace with “Volunteers” since the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails would not be directly responsible for completing this task. Upon review of the Strategic Action Plan, the Friends also requested that the action plan to “Obtain and install rain barrels” for the Installation of Butterfly Gardens goal be removed since we no longer plan to use rain barrels as a source of water supply. After our meeting, members of the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails asked the Parks and Recreation Committee to clarify the intention for Lilleskogen Park to be a manicured park or to have a prairie feel. Options 1. Update the Strategic Action Plan as requested by the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails. 2. Do not make any changes to the Strategic Action Plan. Recommendation Option 1.
