We can all agree the Scanley Cup was the highlight of the 2014 Vinterfest that attracted hundreds of people to Scandia and resulted in a positive economic benefit to local businesses. Our ideas to build on that success and momentum for 2015 areas follows: Heated Tent The addition of an enclosed heated tent would provide a more comfortable visitor and spectator experience. This improved tent could be used for food/beverage, DJ/ music system, tourney results and serve as a general gathering area. Approximate cost of a 30'x 30' heated tent to include setup and take down is $1800 to $2200. DJ/Announcer Full time DJ to entertain with music and keep spectators up to date with game scores and results along with promoting sponsors and other Vinterfest events. We will look for volunteers or sponsors to fill this position. Firework Display Organizing a 10-15 minute firework display to be held on Saturday evening could be an entertainment attraction for all residents to enjoy. I spoke with two providers in regard to cost and ideas and Mark at Spark 1 Pyro ( 763 647 8759) indicated a 10-15 minute show would cost approximately $1500. Mark has good experience and performs annual displays state wide including Marine on the St Croix. I found Spark 1 to be the best value and more flexible for an inaugural community show. I feel the city and fire department should be responsible for logistics and insurance. Food/Berverage I understand local businesses are scheduled to serve food and beverage —great idea. As tournament organizer, we would like to be involved in these discussions and planning. Sponsorship Opportunities We will soon begin our sponsorship drive by soliciting local businesses for the opportunity to support the event in return for exposure from all planned marketing that includes onsite signage, web/social media and media/DJ announcements. Our goal is 8 to 12 businesses to opt -in at a minimum of $250 each. Fundraising/Funding The 2014 tournament resulted in $1000 that was donated from Roberts Family Funeral Home directly to the Leonard Wojtowicz Skating Park. The fundraising part of the tournament is not the primary purpose or intent, but a positive by- product and result. We propose the same arrangement with the net proceeds being donated from us to the Scandia Veterans' Memorial project. Estimated net proceeds are projected to be $2000 to $3000. Is there a way to comply with state law that challenges this proposal based on compensating city staff to maintain the rink during tournament games? Is there funding available from the either the city general or park/rec fund that can help defray costs for community events? Forest Lake Youth Hockey Mite Jamboree We had many comments about incorporating a youth hockey element to the event. Asa result, the Forest Lake Hockey Association scheduled their annual mite (ages 5 to 7) jamboree located at Meisters for the same weekend, Saturday and Sunday. We think locating one or two games to the Scandia rink would help blend and cross promote the entire weekend of events. Let me know if you have questions or comments via email or at 651755 6401. Sincerely, Corey Roberts
