Corey,
Fundraisers for private parties can be held on City property. We sometimes
have folks rent the community center for this purpose. However, the City cannot
donate any funds for a non-public purpose such as the private benefit of a
family. This would include any advertising costs or waiver of permit or rental
fees. Im also not sure we could pay our employees to provide the needed rink
maintenance if it wasnt for a public purpose.
My main concern about closing the rink to benefit a specific family would be
whether or not its appropriate to do so. Last year we talked about the reason
we were ok with closing the rink to the general public was because there would
be a benefit to the rink (capital improvements, maintenance (boards), etc) which
would ultimately come back to be a benefit for those users. Id urge the PRC to
keep this in mind as they discuss the possibility this year.

Hi, at the August park board meeting, one idea I had was to raise money for a
cause or a specific family in the community that is suffering a hard ship instead
of the rink. Can city owned property be used for this type of use?
Thanks
Corey
