SCANDIA GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, respecting and caring for others is a hallmark of the American
character, and central to how we as a community live; and
WHEREAS, respect and care for and from neighbors creates a more sustainable,
resilient community and makes Scandia a great place to live and be; and
WHEREAS, Scandia throughout its history has been the beneficiary of being a
community of Good Neighbors; and
WHEREAS, being a Good Neighbor increases the well-being of individuals and of
the community in which they live; and
WHEREAS, when the government subsidized home meal delivery program lost
its funding, Scandia Cafe owner Holly Kaufhold, offering to continue providing
the low-cost, fresh meals, worked with Sally Dalluhn who offered to serve as
volunteer recruiter and coordinator, started the Scandia Home Delivered Meal
Program which provided the personal home delivery of fresh, affordable meals to
those homebound Scandia residents in need; and
WHEREAS, The Scandia Home Delivered Meal Program functions entirely with
volunteers including present meal drivers Laura Grunziger, Shellie Kolden,
Marlys Johnson, Denise Zauner, Ron & Joyce Leslie, Marlin & Gwen McCurdy,
Vernon & Cathryn Hollman, and Gary Amundson; and
WHEREAS, this program provides homebound residents with more than good,
fresh meals but also with a friendly face at their door to talk with and someone to
quick -check their well-being; and
WHEREAS, The Scandia Home Delivered Meal Program has demonstrated the
qualities of being a Good Neighbor and has been nominated to receive this Award;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Scandia presents the Scandia
Good Neighbor Award to The Scandia Home Delivered Meal Program, in
recognition and appreciation.
