Re: Publication on City Website
Background:
The League of Minnesota Cities is seeking resolutions from cities in support of legislation that would
allow cities to post certain publications on their website as opposed to publication in the official
newspaper. A resolution prepared by the League is included in your packet.
Issue:
Should the City support legislation that allows cities to publish certain public notices on their websites
instead of, or in addition to, in an official newspaper?
Proposal:
A memo from the League is included in your packet that provides further background and details on the
proposal. The bill was heard in the Senate and it awaiting a hearing in the House. In addition to the
League of Minnesota Cities, the bill is supported by the Association of Minnesota Counties, the
Minnesota Township Association, and the Minnesota School Boards Association.
Fiscal Impact:
The City spends about $2,000 a year on legal notices, ordinance publications, help wanted ads and other
notices.
Options:
1) Approve Resolution 3-18-14-06
2) Amend and then Approve Resolution 3-18-14-06
3) Do not approve Resolution 3-18-14-06
Recommendation:
Option 1.
