Re: Washington County All-Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
Agenda Item#: S.h)
Background:
An update of the Washington County All-Hazard Mitigation Plan was recently reviewed and
approved by the Minnesota Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the
Federal Emergency Management Agency. In order to be eligible for disaster mitigation funds,
the city of Scandia must adopt the updated plan.
Chief Finnegan participated in the update process with Washington County.
Issue:
Should the City of Scandia adopt the updated All-Hazard Mitigation Plan for Washington
County?
Proposal Details:
While the plan identifies some mitigation measures, the City is not obligating itself to complete
any of them. One of the projects in the plan is for the City to acquire additional outdoor warning
sirens. There is currently about$20million available from FEMA but the City needs to adopt the
plan before we will be eligible to apply for any funds.
Fiscal Impact:
NA-none at this time but adopting the plan could help the City qualify for FEMA funding in the
future.
Options:
1) Approve Resolution 10-16-12-02
2) Amend and then Approve Resolution 10-16-12-02
3) Take no action
Recommendation:
Option 1.
