7.a)1) Memo-2012 Summer Recreation Program Report . ' - . . . SCANDIA ' . . e To: City Council Fror:Laurie Monson, Parks & Recreation Coordinator CC: Anne Hurlburt, City Administrator Date: October 11, 2012 Re: 2012 Summer Recreation Program Report This summer the city offered a total of 17 classes with 3 classes cancelling due to low enrollment. Last year 22 classes were offered and 5 cancelled due to low enrollment. As in past years, we again partnered with Camp Lakamaga to offer a variety of classes. A total of 112 kids participated in classes/camps this summer. Our most popular classes were Outdoor Explorers Day Camp and Archery. All 3 sessions of Outdoor Explorers were close to full. Archery went over capacity thanks to Lakamaga agreeing to add a few more kids. Marketing efforts included the Summer Program Brochure being sent home in the City's Spring Newsletter and with Scandia Elementary kids. I also handed out brochures at the Scandia Elementary School Camival and sent out press releases to the Country Messenger, Forest Lake Times, Star Tribune and Pioneer Press. The city website was also used to promote classes and send out email blasts. Brochures were dropped off at the Hardwood Creek Library. I met with Camp Lakamaga staff a few weeks ago to begin planning for next year. We talked about adding more archery classes and trying a new class called Water Bonanza. This class will include canoeing, kayaking, swimming and fishing.
