Re: Meisters Authorization to Sell Beer at Hay Lake Park, July 14, 2018, Fat Cat Triathlon
Background:
State statute allows the City Council to authorize holders of a retail on-sale liquor license to sell
alcohol at a community festival or at any convention, banquet, conference, meeting or social
affair conducted on the premises of a sport, convention or cu ltural facility owned by the city.
The licensee must have liquor liability insurance as prescribed by state statute to cover the
event.
Issue:
Should the City Council authorize Meister’s Bar & Grill to sell intoxicating liquor at Hay Lake
Park as part of the Fat Cat Triathlon?
Proposal Details:
Meister’s has applied for a temporary off-premise sales liquor license to sell beer at Hay Lake
Park on Saturday, July 14th from 10am-6pm in conjunction with the Fat Cat Triathlon. The Fat
Cat Triathlon is an event sponsored by the Scandia Marine Lions Foundation and will end at the
city owned park. Meister’s has liquor liability insurance coverage on file with the City for this
year’s license period.
A map of the area is included in your packet. A beer tent will be set up northwest of the
pavillion.
Fiscal Impact:
$25 application fee has been paid
Options:
1) Authorize Meisters to sell liquor at Hay Lake Park on Saturday, July 14, 2018 as
described in the application received March 12, 2018.
2) Add conditions to approval.
3) Do not authorize Meisters to sell liquor at Hay Lake Park on July 14, 2018.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
