5.j) Staff Report - 2014 Aggregate Resurfacing ProjectStaff Report To: City Council From: Tim Kieffer Director of Public Works Date: May 20, 2014 SCANDIA Re: 2014 Aggregate Resurfacing Project Background: Gravel roads naturally lose aggregate over time. In 2013, the City added aggregate to Old Marine Trail, Parade Avenue, and part of 185th St. Again this year staff solicited bids from several contractors to supply aggregate to resurface a portion of the City's gravel roads to help maintain safe and smooth roads. Three quotes were received. Some local contractors did not provide a quote because the scope of work did not fit their operations. After the bids were received, quantities were reduced to stay within budget. Proposal: Staff proposes to add aggregate to 185th St from Olinda Trail to the Bracht Mine. Fiscal Impact: The 2014 budget has $25,650 for aggregate road resurfacing. The low bid is $9.50 per ton for a base bid of $22,325.00 Options: 1) Award the 2014 Aggregate Resurfacing Project to Dresel Contracting Inc. for the base bid of $22,325.00 2) Award the project to another contractor. 3) Do not award the project. Recommendation: Option 1 Attachments: Location of project Quote from Dresel Contracting Inc. Quote from R.E. Peterson Inc. Quote from T.A. Schifsky & Sons Inc.
