PUBLIC WORKS
EQUIPMENT:
• The new Ford F250 regular cab has arrived and may possibly be in operation by the February
Council meeting.
STREETS:
• Snow plow meeting on February 8th 2011 was conducted and a consensus was reached on the
policy by the entire Council. The public works crew will be notified of the expectations for
snow removal.
SAFETY:
• Weekly meetings as well as monthly Safety committee meetings to attain OSHA compliance;
• Plow truck operators checklist is being developed for the pick up trucks and will be along the
lines of the MNDOT requirements for the larger trucks.
SEWER/WATER:
 A second round of collection samples will be taken from the Elim parking lot lift tank, weather
permitting;
• The grant money from the MN Dept of Health was turned down, I am in contact with the
source water protection unit as well as the drinking water protection unit at the State. We
should be able to reapply this spring.
BUILDINGS:
• The salt shed is up except for the fabric door which has been ordered and should arrive soon.
Presently we have about 70 tons of salt stored and ready to be used.
PARK MAINTENANCE:
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
PLANNING:
• Tii Gavo is working with the WC Soil Conservation District and CMSC Watershed District to
finish up with their items so that the project can be completed early spring of 2011.
Addressing the drainage system will be the main focus of the Developer along with the punch
list given them by our Engineer;
• An application has been submitted for a variance to build a residence on an existing
nonconforming lot on Big Marine Lake. The variance will probably be for lake setback and
lot size but the applicant is researching his options and has asked to be placed on the April
Planning Commission agenda;
• Questions have been generated regarding the placement of a residence on a vacant platted lot
on Bone Lake. The lot is approximately 5 acres with 4 of those across Melanie Trail and 1
acre being on the lake. It seems they may also make the April agenda if a variance is needed.
ZONING:
ENGINEERING:
• The placement of new power poles has begun by Excel Energy on the western side of Scandia.
These are the mid-height poles that are about 70' high and angle across the City from south of
97/Manning to Sea Lake.
