Re: Purchase of 201 Pumps
Background: The Council voted at the April Council Meeting to upgrade three lift
stations on the 201 Sewer System. As part of the upgrades, variable
frequency drives will be used to convert single phase power to 3-phase
power. New pumps will be needed to run on 3-phase power which will
cut down on energy costs and extend the life of the pumps. Most of the
pumps are original, which are not produced anymore, and have already
exceeded their expected life.
Proposal: Staff is proposing to purchase six Hydromatic pumps from W.W. Goetsch.
Hydromatic pumps are currently installed at the lift stations which should
allow for an easier installation. W.W. Goetsch is the manufacture
wholesaler for Hydromatic. Four 3-horsepower pumps will replace the
pumps at Bliss Lift Stations 3 and 4. Two 5-horsepower pumps will
replace the pumps at the Anderson/Erickson Lift Station.
Issue: What pumps should be purchased for the new upgrades?
Fiscal Impact: The 201 Enterprise Fund has $25,000 for the replacement pumps. The
total cost for all six pumps is $20,912 installed.
Options: 1) Award the purchase of six Hydromatic pumps from W.W. Goetsch for
$20,912.
2) Award the purchase of six Grundfos pumps from General Repair
Service for $23,262.80.
3) Other options.
Recommendation: Option 1
