Re: Liquor License Ordinance Amendment and Resolution
Background:
The City adopted its liquor license ordinance in January 2007. Previously, as New Scandia
Township liquor licenses were granted by Washington County. Under state statute, statutory cities of
2,500-5,000 population may issue not more than 5 on -sale licenses.
Ordinance No. 93 limits the number of liquor licenses to those in place at the time of adoption. At the
time there were three on -sale licenses-Meisters, Creamery and Prospects. Currently there are three
on -sale licenses approved-Meisters, Creamery and Chikos.
The City Council direct staff at the June work session to draft an amendment to the ordinance to be
consistent with the number of on -sale licenses allowed under state statute.
Issue:
Should Ordinance No. 93 be amended to allow another on/off sale liquor license?
Proposal Details:
A copy of the ordinance amendment is included in your packet. It ties to number of on -sale
licenses to the number allowed under state statute 340A.
Also, a resolution authorizing summary publication is included in your packet.
Options:
1) Approved Ordinance No 153 and Resolution 6-17-14-01
2) Amend and then approve Ordinance No 153 and Resolution 6-17-14-01
3) Do not approve Ordinance No 153
