3.a Lynne Moratzka Good Neighbor Proclamation
SCANDIA GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, respecting and caring for others is a hallmark of the American character, and
central to how we as a community live; and
WHEREAS, respect and care for and from neighbors creates a more sustainable, resilient
community and makes Scandia a great place to live and be; and
WHEREAS, Scandia throughout its history has been the beneficiary of being a community of
Good Neighbors; and
WHEREAS, being a Good Neighbor increases the well-being of individuals and of the
community in which they live; and
WHEREAS, Lynne Moratzka has over the years consistently thought of ways to enrich our
Scandia Community from her key work in establishing Gammelgarden Museum, to helping
found the Scandia Preschool, and her work in organizing the Elim Foundation which
supports people and causes in many ways each year; and
WHEREAS, Lynne has supported the Scandia Community through her involvement in the
formation of the Scandia Farmers’ Market; and
WHEREAS, through Gammelgarden and Elim Church, Lynne brings to Scandia celebrations
of Scandia history, Swedish culture, music, arts, food and festivals; and
WHEREAS, Lynne still keeps generating new ideas to the benefit of the Scandia community -
from decorating lampposts in the fall to decorating the Community Center each winter
season, to meatball races and Lutfisk kickoffs; and
WHEREAS, Lynne has demonstrated the qualities of being a Good Neighbor and has been
nominated to receive this Award,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Scandia presents the Scandia Good Neighbor
Award to Lynne Moratzka, in recognition and appreciation.
