PUBLIC WORKS
EQUIPMENT:
• A skid steer was rented for a few days to use on some projects and we are now looking at
renting one on a longer term basis. The use of the skid steer would have many benefits that we
would use from time to time like auguring guardrail post holes, debris disposal as well as the
obvious uses of dirt moving.
STREETS:
• Patching is occurring as weather permits. Quinnell Ave will be completely patched and will
have used about 7 tons of material. It is a slow process to fill this many potholes as the trailer
only holds 1.5 tons.
• A major erosion problem has been identified on Mayberry Ave above the hill from M�will
Ave. The rip rap placed in 1999 has been undermined and the side of the hill has eroded to a
point that the roadway is jeopardized. City Engineer will be bringing forth options.
• 185th Ave had about 300 ton of limestone gravel placed on it.
• 237t" St will be worked on by the end of June with the City Engineer giving options for the
final surface to be used on the patched area.
• Chloride treatments will happen on June 17tn
SAFETY:
• Weekly meetings as well as monthly Safety committee meetings to attain OSHA compliance.
.
• Mock OSHA inspection performed by Safe Assure.
SEWER/WATER:
• Soil surveys were done on the Uptown septic area and the Community Center system as well
as tank investigation. All of the tanks that are in use were pumped and a camera was used to
look at the interior of the tanks. A septic tank was discovered outside of the warming house
that we were unaware of.
• The grant to abandon the well has to be approved by the Council and then sent back to the
Health Department before the work can be finished. Two monitoring wells for the Bliss
Addition septic system will be abandoned this spring per MPCA requirements. .
BUILDINGS:
• Pictures were taken of the Community Center roof sheathing and leaking has occurred to a
point that the sheathing needs replacement. It seems that the flashing was not done
adequately. Estimates will be sought from local contractors.
PARKS/PARK MAINTENANCE:
• The 2 boards have been removed in the structure at Lilleskogen Park and the water level has
dropped about 6"-9". All of the boards were installed and the water level rose much higher
than expected so 2 boards have now been removed. The structure is working exactly how it
was meant to work.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
PLANNING/ZONING:
• Tii Gavo is nearing completion;
• Old Marine Estates will have the escrow amount of$5300 renewed as he has not called for a
final inspection and it appears that nothing has been done.
ENGINEERING:
• The Capital Improvement committee will be bringing forward its recommendations for road
repair and equipment replacement status.
• A meeting of the LMC Retroreflectivity meeting was attended and a draft resolution should be
coming soon from the League. The policy must be in place by January 22, 2012 and one of
the first recommendations was to inventory all of the signs within the City.
DAILY ACTIVITIES
• Building and Zoning inspections;
• Coordinating projects for Public Works;
• Review of permits for the excavation into the ROW by Utility companies.
• Resident interaction including phone calls, emails and in person regarding zoning,planning
and building issues as well as calls regarding street maintenance;
• Continuing education to maintain certifications for Wetland Conservation Act, Building
Official, Water Operator, MPCA Septic certification and other licenses that may be required;
• Training for the implementation of the sign reflectivity requirements ongoing;
• Safety training per the League of MN Cities Insurance Trust.
