City Council Agenda Report
City of Scandia
14727 209' St. North
Scandia, MN 55073 (651) 433-2274
Action Requested: Receive a report on upcoming vacancies on city advisory committees
(Planning Commission, Park and Recreation Committee and Capital
Improvements Committee.)
Deadline/Timeline: Terms on some committees expire February 1, 2012; others have
existing vacancies.
Background: • The city began advertising for applicants for committees in the
October city newsletter and has had an announcement active on
the website since then. Typically, the Council interviews
applicants for citizen committees in January.
• The term of office of one Planning Commissioner, Chair Christine
Maefsky, will expire on February 1, 2012. She has applied for
reappointment. There are no other applications on file.
• The Park and Recreation Committee, which currently has 5
members and 2 vacancies, has no members with terms expiring.
No applications are on file.
• Current appointments to the Capital Improvements Committee
continue through February 1, 2013. However, 2 of the citizen
members failed to attend any meetings in 2011. No applications
are on file.
Recommendation: I recommend that the Council discuss the status of Committee
appointments. A more direct recruiting effort by the Council may be
necessary to find citizen volunteers.
