9.c Report-holiday lighting Staff Report Date of Meeting: May 10, 2018 To: City Council From: Neil Soltis, Administrator Re: Holiday Decorations Background: The Lions identified a need to replace the holiday decorations that are installed on the decorative light posts owned by the City. There are 42 lamp poles in the village area, and it was proposed to replace 12-15 the first year for the core downtown and expand out each year. At the May work session the Council was in consensus to match the Lions donation, estimated at $3,000. At the May 10 meeting, the Scandia Marine Lions approved donating up to $3,000 to match the City’s contribution towards the project. Below is a picture of the decoration that was presented at the work session Issue: Should the City accept the Lions donation, match the donation, and process with purchasing the decorations. Proposal Details: The resolution that follows this report provides for accepting the donation from the Scandia Marine Lions, approve the purchase of decorations up the $6,000, and amending the budget for both the receipt of the donations and the expenditure of $6,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund. Fiscal Impact: The Lions donation would require a match from the City. As of April 30, 2018 the Capital Improvement Fund had a cash balance of $623,569 of which $40,000 is reserved for the tennis court improvements. Options: 1. Approve Resolution 05-15-18-07 Accepting the donation from the Lions, approving the purchase, and amending the 2018 budget 2. Take no action on the Resolution 3. Defer action for additional discussion on the scope of the project Recommendation: Option 1
