Judi,
My wife and I are unable to attend the meeting on June 4th regarding the proposed BMX Park but
wish we could be there to express our reactions. We are vehemently opposed to such an idea.
We have lived in this neighborhood for over 17 years and have greatly appreciated the lack of traffic
and quite nature of our area. This is why we moved here in the first place!!
The neighborhood is composed of a higher percentage of older adults. Using this property as a BMX
Park serves an extremely small portion of the population in our neighborhood. It certainly would not
serve any residents who live near the proposed site and bring in people/traffic into our
neighborhood changing the dynamics of our area. There is a place already for kids at the hockey
rink similar to what you are proposing.
The other less obvious concern is the liability issue to the City of Scandia if someone was hurt on
the track. This could be costly to the city.
This seems to be a huge waste of our tax dollars that I'm sure could be spent much more efficiently.
The roads on our street are in need of great repair. Leave the lot alone. It is full of wildlife and
natural plants.
I hope you take this all into consideration.

It seems to us that you are stretching for ideas to waste our tax
dollars. A BMX park is primarily used by under aged kids and need
their parents to drive them there and "hopefully" stay there and
watch them.
This 3 acre lot is mostly a wet area and will disturb a lot of the wild
life that a lot of us neighbors around here moved here for to enjoy.
You are trying to make it a busy city looking place in our
neighborhood and we don't want it. We like our quite peaceful spot
away from the hustle and bustle of all the busyness. We don't want
anymore traffic then we already have. Our roads are VERY bad the
way it is. Huge pot holes that we have needed to be fixed for a few
years now, not just patched. We can't take a bike ride around sand
lake without having to look at the road at all times for the pot holes
in the roads.
We bought our 5 acre lot 25 years ago wanting nice neighbors and
wildlife, not recreational parks around us. We love our town of
Scandia and support all the businesses in town. If you would build a
BMX track somewhere in town then the kids could go up to the
store and get ice cream or a drink. There would be money being
put into our town. Lets start thinking that way please instead of
making sure we have parks in so many square miles of each other.
Please stop wasting our tax dollars on stuff that has already proven
NOT to work. (BMX track down by softball park past Meisters years
ago that failed)
Thank you for your time
Long time Scandia Resident

I am writing because I am unable to attend the June 4th meeting concerning the proposed BMX park. I would like my
opinion to be read & considered concerning this idea.
I strongly oppose the proposed BMX park. I live near the land that is proposed to be used. I have lived on Hay Lake
since 1997. 1 purchased the land & built in a quiet residential area on a natural habitat lake on purpose. I want to
continue to live in a quiet area with my neighbors.
I have concerns about strangers coming into a quiet residential area. I want to continue to feel safe in my own home.
The letter that was sent to us states that we are underserved regarding this neighborhood for parks which I disagree
because we have the Lions Club pavilion, Gammelgarden park, community center area are all within 1 mile. I don't
believe this suggestion serves the needs of this neighborhood.
Another major consideration is the liability that having youth unsupervised with potential for accidents will not be good
for the City of Scandia.
Currently the land is undisturbed with a beautiful natural habitat for wildlife. I think it would be wonderful if it could be
preserved & maintained the way it is.
Thanks you for taking my opinion of opposing the BMX park into consideration.
