PUBLIC WORKS Equipment: • Boom flail mower continues to have problems, it should take about 10 days before the new one can be delivered after Council approval; Streets: • Rain has hampered the effort to mow the road shoulders but all of the roadways should be completed around mid August. In a normal season, it takes approximately 160 hours to mow all of the street ditches the first time; • Barricades have not been mowed leaving some hard to see, weed killing around the barricades will happen near the middle of August; • Rain has also increased the grading of gravel roads, Pilar, 197`h (Copas) and 205th (Loghouse Landing) have needed increased attention; • Shoulder work has taken a back seat to mowing. 220th east of Highway 95 was washed out undermining the asphalt, this was remedied; • Patching of areas is occurring and the current project will be at 199`" and Parkview Ave and a future project will occur on Meadowbrook about '/2 mile south of 205`n; • Storms have caused a fair amount of tree removal and a thanks should be given to the Scandia Fire Department personnel who were out clearing trees. Safety: • Continuing towards compliance with OSHA regulations and have started weekly staff ineetings to address issues; • One full set of chainsaw chaps, helmet, face protector and ear guards has been purchased. A second full set will be purchased for each truck. Sewer/Water: • Meeting was held regarding the Uptown Sewer system on July 12`h. The system is being used at its design capacity and steps will be needed to be taken to prepare for a new system. Buildings: • The front entrance area of the Community Center will need maintenance and will be attended to before Scandia Taco Daze. • The overhead garage doors in the old shop building will need to be replaced as well as several service doors into it and the Community Center. • Trying to obtain quotes for the Salt Shelter. Currently only 2 quotes have been submitted. Parks: • Addressing some of the Park maintenance issues including the lighted ballfield bleachers and playground, tennis courts; COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLANNING: • Tii Gavo has MPCA approval to operate their septic system, completion of the project is scheduled for July 31, 2010. This is still ongoing and the beach house buildings are near completion; • Plan submittal for the Scandia Clinic; • Meeting regarding the design criteria for the Scandia Plaza. ZONING: • Attended Development Code committee meetings; • Ongoing inspections for the Tiller and Bracht Gravel mines. The Tiller site has not gotten through to the south into Dresel's old site nor have they done anymore dredging into the water table. Bracht continues to reclaim their site. ENGINEERING: � Several ROW permits were issued to utility contractors; • Preparation for the street resurfacing to occur near the end of the month. PARKS: • Lilleskogen Park brush pick up after the Park's Committee cleaned up some invasive trees. Waiting for a period with minimal rain to get in and spray the canary grass to allow for the planting of native species but have yet to find an appropriate time. Daily Activities: • Building inspections; • Zoning inspections; • Review of permits for the excavation into the ROW by Utility companies. • Resident interaction including phone calls, emails and in person regarding zoning, planning and building issues; • Continuing education to maintain certifications for Wetland Conservation Act, Building Official, Water Operator and other licenses that may be required; • Safety training per the League of MN Cities Insurance.
