PUBLIC WORKS
Equipment:
• Boom flail mower has amved, will be installed soon;
Streets:
• 1 pass of shoulder mowing was completed in early August, about a month longer than normal.
In a normal season, it takes approximately 160 hours to mow all of the street ditches the first
time;
• Barricades have not been mowed leaving some hard to see, weed killing around the barricades
will happen near the end of September;
• Rain has also increased the grading of gravel roads, Pilar, 197' (Copas) and 205`' (Loghouse
Landing) have needed increased attention. Pilar has degraded to a point where rocks are
becoming a concern for the plow trucks, approximately 600 ton of gravel will be added in
October.;
• Layton Ave flooded over from a rain and Larkspur Ave was beginning to erode away with the
constant rain around 190`h and 192"d Streets. Jetted the culvert out and have asked for quotes
to repair the sites. Maintenance to the drainage system in this area has not be done for several
years and will need some attention;
• Patching of Parkview Ave `bump' has been corrected;
• The landings at Goose Lake and the St. Croix also need attention and will have rip rap applied
this fa1L
Safety:
• Continuing towards compliance with OSHA regulations and have started weekly staff
meetings to address issues;
• One full set of chainsaw chaps,helmet, face protector and ear guards has been purchased.
Each employee will have a full set of safety equipment.
• Trying to set up a training opportunity at the City for chain saw safety; using Alex Bildeaux as
the certified instructor.
Sewer/Water:
• Collection of samples to determine strength of inflow will be taken. A problem occurred and
the second pump at Elim Church was replaced with a larger pump. It appeared that there was
a considerable amount of soap scum in the tanks.
Buildings:
• The overhead garage doors in the old shop building will need to be replaced as well as several
service doors into it and the Community Center.
• Council to determine the type of Salt Shed structure to be utilized.
Parks:
• Year end maintenance of the playgrounds and ball fields, steps to the bleachers at the lighted
field were replaced, sand was added to the playground at that park;
• Hay Lake shelter lights are inoperable and need attention with either an electric sensor or
switch but currently there are no bulbs in the lights.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
PLANNING:
• Tii Gavo has the beach house buildings are completed and the final phase of construction is
close. Trees were inspected this year and the final placement of trees will be completed
adding some that did not survive the allotted 2 year time frame;
• Meeting regarding the design criteria for the Scandia Plaza.
ZONING:
• Attended Development Code committee meetings;
• Ongoing inspections for the Tiller and Bracht Gravel mines. The Tiller site has not gotten
through to the south into Dresel's old site nor have they done anymore dredging into the water
table. Bracht continues to reclaim their site.
ENGINEERING:
• Several ROW permits were issued to utility contractors;
• Street resurfacing was completed leaving us with about 200 ton of street sweepings. This will
be placed on parking areas that are not being plowed; the sweepings do not have a binder in
them to keep them in place. The lighted ball field, south ball field, little league field and
Lilleskogen are likely places.
PARKS:
• Mowing of the Sanctuary Development access to William O'Brein Park with signage
occurring this fall.
DAILY ACTIVITIES
• Building inspections;
• Zoning inspections;
• Review of permits for the excavation into the ROW by Utility companies.
• Resident interaction including phone calls, emails and in person regarding zoning, planning
and building issues;
 Continuing education to maintain certifications for Wetland Conservation Act, Building
Official, Water Operator and other licenses that may be required;
• Safety training per the League of MN Cities Insurance.
