Scandia, MN 55073 (651) 433-2274
Action Requested: Adopt Ordinance No. 121, Establishing Compensation for the Mayor
and City Council, Repealing Ordinance No. 94.
Deadline/Timeline: Ordinances changing City Council compensation must be adopted
prior to a municipal election and become effective after the election.
Background: • The current ordinance providing for City Council salaries provides
for an adjustment tied to the inflation rate, to occur every other
year on January 1 years following a city election. The last
adjustment occurred on January l, 2009 and another is schedule to
take place on January 1, 2011.
• At the August 30 special meeting on the 2011 budget, the Council
discussed salary adjustment, and directed staff to prepare an
ordinance to eliminate the 2011 adjustment.
• The draft ordinance mirrors the existing ordinance, incorporating
the current salary amounts in sections 1 and 2. The next inflation
adjustment would occur on January 1, 2013.
Recommendation: I recommend that the Council adopt the ordinance.
