Re: Mayor and Council Salaries
Background:
The last adjustment in Mayor and Council salaries was in January 2009. Ordinances had set the
next adjustment for after the following election in an amount equal to the change in the CPI.
However, the Council repealed the ordinance and passed another pushing the increase until after
the following election. This was most recently done in 2012, Ordinance No. 132.
At the August 20th budget work session, the Council indicated they would like to push the
increase back another election cycle.
Issue:
Should Council salary increases be delayed until after the 2016 election?
Proposal Details:
Ordinance No 156 in your packet would push the increase back until after the 2016 election.
Fiscal Impact:
Passing the ordinance saves about $2,000 annually. This amount has already been cut from the
proposed 2015 budget.
Options:
1) Adopt Ordinance No 156
2) Amend and then Adopt Ordinance No 156
3) Do not adopt Ordinance No 156
Recommendation:
Option 1.
