Re: Hire Seasonal, PT On -Call Maintenance Worker (Snow Removal)
Background:
At the September meeting, the Council gave approval to staff to advertise and interview for the PT,
On -Call Maintenance Worker position for the 2014-2015 season. Applications were accepted until
October 3, 2014 however the City received no applications. Staff contacted Clarence Seefert and
Bruce Swenson who had plowed for the City last year and they are interested in coming back. Staff
also approached summer parks maintenance worker Lynn Brandenburg and he agreed to give it a try.
Issue:
Who should be hired for the 2014-2015 season as an On -Call, PT Maintenance Worker?
Proposal Details:
Staff is recommending that the following individuals be hired for the 2014-2015 season at the stated
rates of pay:
Clarence Seefert-$17.34
Bruce Swenson -$17.34
Lynn Brandenburg -$14.28
Hiring three will allow us to train a backup to cover for when one of the drivers is sick or on
vacation. At least two of the proposed drivers take vacations in the winter to warmer climates.
Fiscal Impact:
The above wages are provided for in the 2014-2015 budgets for public works temporary
employees.
Options:
1) Approve hiring of part-time, on-call maintenance positions listed above at stated pay.
2) Advertise for applications again
3) Do not hire any part-time, on-call maintenance positions for the 2014-2015 season.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
