9.a) Citizen Request for Changes to Tree Trimming PolicyAs residents of Scandia, MN, we request the Tree Trimming Policy adopted by the City Council on October 16, 2012, be amended. The current Tree Trimming Policy states: Remove trees and brush to allow for routine maintenance Amend to: Remove trees and brush up to 8 feet from the paved road edge to allow for routine maintenance The current Tree Trimming Policy allows for arbitrary tree removal. There are a number of stately trees around Bone Lake (Lofton, 2281h, 238th, Melanie Trail, Meadow Brook) that must be preserved under the Guidelines for the Protection of Scandia's Priority Scenic Viewsheds (adopted by City Council May 15, 2012). Below is text ftom this document: Guidelines for the Protection of Scandia's Priority Scenic Viewsheds includes Lofton Avenue (County Road 91), 228th and 238th streets, Meadow Brook, Scenic Viewshed Corridor. The goal of the Scenic Viewshed Protection Guidelines is to continue Scandia's historic efforts to guard its natural, historic and scenic beauty: ❑ Protect Scandia's scenic resources ❑ Enhance its natural beauty to make it a desired place to live and visit ❑ Maintain attractive entrance ways into and corridors through the city ❑ Improve Scandia's economic vitality by enhancing its attractiveness to its residents and visitors Approved by City Council, May 15, 2012, Resolution No. 05-15-12-01 (Exhibit A) Thank you for your consideration.
