Updated job descriptions will replace many outdated provisions of the old resolution and bylaws by which the Department has operated in the past. • In February and March, the Council approved position descriptions for the Volunteer Fire Chief and for the Volunteer Assistant Fire Chiefs,respectively. The Committee has recommended one change to those previous approved descriptions. New language has been added to the first bullet in the"Special Requirements" section (page 2) so that it reads as follows: "Must be eighteen (18)years of age or older at time of hire and residinQ or emploved within a fifteen minute response time to the Citv o,j' Scandia Fire Station"(new language underlined.) All four of the descriptions, attached, include this language. • With the completion of the Volunteer Captain and Volunteer Firefighter position descriptions, there is only one more needed: Probationary Volunteer Firefighter. This description will be similar to the Firefighter description,but will have an additional section on the requirements to be fulfilled to complete the training/ probationary period. This last description will be completed and brought to the Council for approval before the Fire Department begins any process to hire additional firefighters. Recommendation: I recommend that the Council approve the revised position descriptions for the Chief and Assistant Chiefs, and approve the new position descriptions for Volunteer Captain and Volunteer Firefighter. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general guidance and direction of the Mayor and City Council. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervises the Department Officers, (Volunteer Assistant Fire Chiefs, Votunteer Captains, Engineer) and Volunteer Fire Fighters. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates Fire and EMS operations. • Establishes policies and procedures for the department in order to implement directives from the Mayor and City Council. • Plans and implements Fire and EMS programs for the City in order to better carry out City policies and goals. • Maintains policies and supervises the discipline and conduct and general behavior of supervised personnel. • Reviews departmental performance and effectiveness; formulates programs or policies to alleviate deficiencies. � Supervises and coordinates the preparation and presentation of an annual budget.
