5.e)3) Fire Department Compensation Meeting Date: 5/19/2009 Agenda Item: i ' 3 City Council Agenda Report City of Scandia 14727 209th St. North Scandia, MN 55073 (651) 433-2274 Action Requested: Adopt a resolution establishing Fire Department compensation. . Deadline/ Timeline: N/A Background: • The Committee reviewing Fire Department governance documents found that there were some differences between the City Council resolution (12-18-07-03) setting Fire Department Compensation, and the pay practices and by-laws of the department. • The main differences were that 1) the resolution did not clearly provide for paying the hourly wage for all fire department activities (recertification classes, inspections and department and officers meetings), and 2) the resolution did not include bonuses firefighters receive for completion of certain State fire schools and certification courses. • As all compensation must be approved by the City Council, the resolution has been revised to be consistent with current practices. The resolution does not increase compensation levels, which remain the same as the 2007 resolution. Recommendation: I recommend that the Council adopt the resolution, as recommended by the Committee.
