Log House Landing Committee
Recommendations to the City Council
1. Roadway
a. The Committee recommends that the roadway be paved 13' wide as
an asphalt surface and be graded to the south.
b. The Committee recommends using a curb and gutter and storm sewer
to be located on the south side of the roadway to capture water. By
locating the storm sewer on the south side of the roadway, fewer tree
roots will be impacted.
c. Curb and gutter should be of as rustic and natural looking design as
possible.
d. During the final design, alignment of the roadway should be optimized
to avoid as much environmental impact as possible, including impact
on and removal of trees.
e. Existing culverts across the roadway and across the railroad tracks
should be examined and cleaned/replaced as needed.
2. Pull outs
a. The Committee recommends designing two pullouts located along the
roadway to allow for safe passing of vehicles.
b. The Committee recommends that the pullouts located on the south
side of the roadway be designed with an asphalt surface, graded to the
south with a curb and gutter drainage system.
c. The Committee recommends the west (uphill) pullout be moved as far
away as feasible from the bank and the stream.
3. Parking
a. The Committee recommends that parking along the roadway be a
more natural, non -asphalt pervious surface (such as the larger, more
stable gravel recommended by a County expert) and be graded to the
north.
b. During Final design, parking on the northern side of the landing
should be considered for "non -trailer" parking. Consideration should
be made to make these parking stalls pervious surface and graded
away from the river.
i. ADA accessibility should be considered for one of these
parking stalls.
c. If the amount of parking recommended in this plan needs to be
reduced, additional parking along Quinnell should be considered.
4. Improve Landing Area
a. The Committee recommends that the following improvements to the
Landing area be considered during the final design:
i. The area should be paved only if essential for protecting water
quality.
ii. Concrete cable boat launch ramp to DNR standards should be
as natural looking as feasible.
iii. Slope stabilization. natural stones and rocks should be used at
bank reinforcement areas

considered
i. No Parking areas
I No Trailer parking on the landing
iii. Slow/No-Wake cautions prominently displayed
iv. No overnight parking
b. The Committee recommends not adding signage off the Landing site

ii. Avoid encouraging inappropriate watercraft
7. Natural Environment
a. The Committee recommends that in the final design, provision is
made for trees and plants to be added to restore disturbed areas
b. The Committee recommends that an arborist be used to determine
the condition and relative value of the trees to be impacted or
removed
c. The Committee recommends that every effort be made to avoid tree
removal or negative impact to existing vegetation
8. Future Use Provisions
a. The Committee recommends that future use provisions should be
made in the overall design including
i. A hiker/pedestrian rest area at the site of the fireplace
monument
ii. Shore fishing accessibility
iii. Natural looking stairway off the Landing area leading down to
the river
iv. Natural looking screening for the porta potty
v. NPS will provide on their historic sign a "haul out your own
trash" (with bags) as they do at other sites. We recommend
that the council consider this as the alternative to the city
providing a trash receptacle.

b. Allow for community review and input at the 60% completion point
