Re: "P" Roads Trimming and Grubbing
Background: In 2013 the Council viewed Pilar, Perkins, Penfield, and Paris on a road
tour. Council members agreed that improvements need to be done to
address erosion, drainage, and safety issues. The Council decided to
break the improvements into a 5 year project with tree trimming and
clearing as step one.
The project involves trimming or removal of trees and scrub within the
right-of-way or easement in order to re -shape the ditches or improve sight
lines. The project includes working along power lines and removal of
several large dead or diseased trees. Therefore, staff believes a contractor
would be more appropriate given the deadline.
Staff met with contractors to review the proposed work and obtain quotes.
Letters have been sent out to affected property owners notifying them of
the project.
Proposal: Staff is proposing to award the "P" roads tree trimming and clearing
project to Helkes Tree Service for $24,500.
Issue: Should tree trimming and grubbing on the "P" roads occur?
Fiscal Impact: The 2015 operating budget has $30,000 for tree trimming on the "P"
roads.
Options: 1) Award the "P" roads tree trimming and grubbing project to Helkes
Tree Service for $24,500.
2) Do not award the "P" roads tree trimming and grubbing project.
3) Other options.
Recommendation: Option 1
