Discussion On Whether The Town Board Would Take A Official
Position On The Question Of Option B, At The Town Election
Mr Kevin Nickelson stated he had been asked whether the Town
Board would take an official position on the question whether to
elect or appoint the Township Clerk and Township Treasurer.
He stated after much thought he had decided that the board should
not make a motion or resolution on this question.
In 1990 and 1991 the board voted unanimously to put the question
on the ballot and it was evident that most if not all of the
board members on those two boards wanted these positions to be
appointed and no longer elected. The boards at that time felt the
questions deserved to be put on the ballot for the voters to
decide and that was the correct position and it is still correct
this is a decision that the voters will make and not the Town
Board. The board agreed unanimously not to take a position on
Option B.
Mr Kevin Nickelson made the following Resolution:
Whereas, of this date we know of no complaints against the
present Town Clerk and Town Treasurer, that have been brought to
the boards attention at a public meeting. Whereas, it is our
estimation that the job performance of both Susan Haugen and
page 2
Dolores Peterson has been exemplary. Therefore, be it resolved
that the Town Board of New Scandia Township finds both of these
persons to be good and valued employees, deserving recognition
for their smooth, efficient and effective operation of the Town
Office and all other duties, thereof.
Kevin Nickelson made a motion to support the proposed resolution,
Paul Rasmussen seconded and the board supported the resolution,
unanimously.
