09-26-95 special tbSeptember 26, 1995 On the above date New Scandia Town Board held a Workshop Meeting for the Skating Facility. The following Board Members were present: Chairman, Charles Nordin, Vice Chairman, Duane Thompson, Edith Hadlich, Kevin Nickelson and Paul Rasmussen. The following residents were also present Laurie Gordon, Shirley Sova, Nancy Peterson and Mike White members of the Parks and Recreation Committee. Ken Ostlund, Dan Sandager and Nancy Peterson, Architectural Committee. Tom Prew, Township Engineer. Tara Wojtowicz and Susan Haugen, Skating Task Force Committee. Steve Spence, Fire Chief. Thomas Obst, Robert Jensen, Dan Marx and Matt Isaacson, residents. SKATING SITE Tom Prew presented two site proposals for the Skating Site. Discussion was held in regards to location of the warming house and it was the consensus of the public the site with the warming house located closer to 209th Street was the best location. Paul Rasmussen made a motion to approve the site with the warming house located to the north close to 209th Street. Charles Nordin, yes, Kevin Nickelson, yes, Duane Thompson, yes, Paul Rasmussen, yes. Edith Hadlich, opposed. Motion passed. It was agreed for the year of 1995 and early part of 1996 there would only be a pleasure rink and the installation of a light pole. There was much discussion regarding the ballfield which will not be located on the site by the Community Center when the rinks are installed. It was decided to contact the Christ Household of Faith and the Lighted Ballfield representatives in regards to leasing the fields for the summer of 1996. Duane Thompson made a motion to install one light and receive quotes for the grading of the pleasure rink. Kevin Nickelson seconded and motion passed unanimously. Edith Hadlich made a motion to regrade the Tee Field and plant grass seed. Duane Thompson seconded the motion and motion passed unanimously. A discussion was held regarding the proposed well for the Fire Department and the use of flooding the rinks. Mr Spence, Fire Chief stated the department needs a large volume of water and a holding tank and the department wants a well that would fill the tanks in a short time. Mr Spence felt the well should be located in the area where the new maintenance garage maybe built. page 2 Mr Tom Prew was directed to give the township a cost estimate from TKDA for preparing specifications for a proposed well for the Skating Facility and Fire Department and have the information available for the October 3, 1995 Town Board meeting. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN Mr Kevin Nickelson reported that Mary Lenz, Bill Plowman and Mr Nickelson meet with the Metropolitan Council to review the New Scandia Comprehensive Plan and Washington Comprehensive Plan and that Washington Countys' Plan will have final approval on October 3, 1995. It was agreed that Mr Nickelson attend the meeting at Washington County, October 3, 1995. Mr Paul Rasmussen questioned the Board Members if there should be a discussion of Police Protection for New Scandia Township. Mr Rasmussen would contact, the City of Marine and May Township and ask if either parties would consider contracting with the County and divide the hours between the parties.
