On the above date New Scandia Township held a Emergency Meeting
to discuss and review problems that had incurred at Elim Lutheran
Church with well drilling.
The following Board Members were present: Dennis Seefeldt,
Chairman, Paul Rasmussen, Vice Chairman, Robert Jensen, Michael
Hinz and Bruce McConoughey.
The following Members of Elim Church were also present: Dan
Sandager, Eric Sandager, Norman Ostrand, Larry Engstrom and
Skip Stromberg.
Dan Sandager informed the board that with the new addition that
Elim Lutheran Church are building it was necessary.to move the
existing well. The Church had contacted the Township and the
Hilltop Water Company regarding the possibility of connecting to
either one of the wells. Mr. Sandager stated that now the Church
would like to revisit the possibility as the tool was broke and
it appears they are in the same aquifer as the existing well and
the Church cannot use the existing well, so therefore the Church
and Parsonage have no water.
Members of Elim stated they could dig another hole, but may run
into the same problem. Mr. Seefeldt stated he had concerns with
so many wells being dug in the area and what may happen to the
ground water.
Peterson Excavating had given a quote to the Church to tie into
the Skating Facility Well verses digging their own well. The
amount to tie into the Skating Facility Well was $7,000.00 and to
dig a new well and seal the existing well was $9,000.00.
Mr. Hebert, Attorney questioned if the well at the Skating
Facility has sufficient water supply to service the Elim Lutheran
Church.
Michael Hinz stated he had contacted the Minnesota Department of
Health and the department had informed Mr. Hinz that 15 units
could be contacted to the well and after that it would have to be
monitored. This is not a assurance not the well would
accommodate 15 units. It was the consensus of the Town Board
they would allow the Elim Lutheran Church to use the well on
temporary basis.
Paul Rasmussen made a motion to authorize a committee consisting
of two members of the Town Board and three representatives from
Elim Lutheran Church to study the feasibility of connecting to
the Skating Facility Well. Robert Jensen seconded the motion and
motion adopted unanimously.
