New Scandia Town Board meeting was called to order by Chairman,
Dennis Seefeldt. The following Board Members were present:
Chairman, Dennis Seefeldt, Vice Chairman, Paul Rasmussen, Michael
Hinz, Robert Jensen and Bruce McConoughey.
Bonding For New Scandia Fire and Rescue/Public Works
Kevin Nickelson gave a presentation of the updated cost estimates
for the New Scandia Fire/Rescue and Public Works Building. The
total package for the construction is estimated at $1,711,760.50.
Mr. Nickelson stated the Building Committee was recommended the
amount of $1.2 million, because a $1.5 million bond referendum
could fail due to the large amount.
Paul Rasmussen made a motion the Town Board request a $1.2
million Bond Referendum on September 14, 1999, payable over a
fifteen (15) year period. Michael Hinz seconded the motion and
motion adopted unanimously.
Reshaping Infield/Lighted Field
Robert Jensen made a motion to approve the bid proposal from
Peterson Excavating for the grading and shaping of infield at the
lighted ball field and to include 14 tons of lime rock and
grading dugout area in the amount of $404.00. Paul Rasmussen
seconded the motion and motion adopted unanimously.
Bids For Painting Of Community Center
The two following quotes were presented for the painting of the
Community Center Bakers Painting and Drywall, $8,340.00 and
K.O.A. Quality Finishes, $6,725.00. The clerk was informed to
contact the Township Engineer to provide specs for the painting
of the Community Center.
Signs For Community Center and Skating Park
The following two quotes were presented for the signs for the
Community Center and Skating Park: Sign Depot, $1,110.00 per
sign and Sign Work $1,025.00 per sign. The Sign Depot material
was cedar and the Sign Work material was redwood.
Michael Hinz made a motion to accept the bid from Sign
Work for the two signs at the cost of $1,025.00 per sign.
Robert Jensen seconded the motion and motion adopted unanimously.

Concerns By Residents Regarding Use of Gravel Pit On Highway
97
A letter had been presented from a group of residents that live
near the vacant gravel pit, located on Highway 97. The residents
are concerned that the property has become an established and
recognized recreational facility for ATVs.
The board wondered if the noise would meet the MPCA Standards and
if a sound meter could be installed. After much discussion it
was agreed that Dennis Seefeldt and Michael Hinz would visit
George Lindgren one of the owners and ask if he would cooperate
and not sign permission slips for persons who are using the
gravel pit.
Brad Smith Moved In House On Meadowbrook
A letter directed to the Town Board from Al Goodman was read by
the clerk in regards to a house that Brad Smith had moved -in on
the corner of Highway 97 and Meadowbrook. Mr. Goodman stated he
had given Mr. Smith written notice on April 28, 1999 and June 2,
1999 and Mr. Smith has not acknowledged any of his written
letters.
The board directed the Township Attorney, David Hebert to send a
letter to Mr. Brad Smith and inform him that he is in violation.
Leonard Simonson/Garage
Mr. Al Goodman reported that letters have been sent to Mr.
Simonson's Power of Attorney, regarding the garage on his
property that is partially falling down and this is a hazardous
situation and no action has been taken on the removal of the
garage. Mr. Hebert would write a letter that would be signed by
the Chairman, Dennis Seefeldt.
3.2 Malt Liquor License For Scandia/Marine Lions
Paul Rasmussen made a motion to approve the 3.2 Malt Liquor
License for Scandia/Marine Lions for Taco Days on September 11,
1999. Robert Jensen seconded the motion and motion adopted
unanimously.
Bids For Equipment For Community Center Kitchen
Robert Jensen presented the following bids for equipment for the
Community Center Kitchen: Hospitality Supply, $19,272.15, and
Mechanical Services Inc, $14,534.00. Mr. Jensen also informed
the board that Scandia/Marine Lions have pledged $8,000.00
towards the equipment for the kitchen.

Paul Rasmussen made a motion to accept the bid from Mechanical
Services Inc, in the amount of $14,534.00 and recognize the large
donation from the Scandia/Marine Lions. Bruce McConoughey
seconded the motion and motion adopted unanimously.
