Building Inspection —Through the end of July, 302 permits with a total valuation of
$20,205,776 have been issued. The 2018 totals include the permits for the Scandia Elementary
School improvements and for 10 new homes. The compares to 418 permits with a total value
of $10,517,790 with 10 new homes for the first seven months of 2017. The majority of the
2018 permits issued continue to be for reroofing or residing.
Conservation Partners Legacy Grant — Ryan Goodman is working on a grant application to the
Conservation Partners Legacy Grant program which is managed by MnDNR. The grants must
restore, protect, or enhance prairies, wetlands, forest or habitat and require a 10% match. The
intent would be to apply for a grant for wetland restoration at Lilleskogen Park and to use the
funds requested in the 2019 budget for the match. Grant is being compiled and should be
finished by September 11t". The application will have to be submitted on or before September
17th.
Disposal of fixed assets - The Ford Ranger used by the Public Works Department that was
replaced is currently up for auction on the publicsurplus.com website. The auction originally
closed on 8/28 but the reserve price was not met so the auction was extended. The new
closing date is September 11.
Carnelian Marine St. Croix Watershed District Board — Paul Richert appointed to Board for a 15c
term expiring on 8/21/2018, Wade Johnson was appointed to a 2nd term expiring on 6/21/2021,
Andrew Weaver was appointed to a 3rd term expiring on 6/21/2021
Washington County Hazard Mitigation Plan —Washington County is in the process of updating
their hazard mitigation plan. To be eligible for Federal Hazard Mitigation Funding projects need
to be listed in the County Plan. Scandia projects in the current plan and in the updated plan
include the purchase and installation of outdoor warning sirens and associated technology and the
purchase and installation of a generator and ancillary equipment for critical facilities
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources emerald Ash Borer grant — MnDNR received the
final application and supporting documentation and will notify the City no later than September
14, 2018 regarding the award.
Washington County CDA — In July, 2017 Washington County contracted with the Open to
Business program to provide support to new and existing businesses. A report on the first year
of activity should the program served 114 clients in the County including 7 in Scandia.
