8.f Public works staff report - January 15th - 2019February 19th, 2019 Public Works Staff Report – January 2019 Roads and Right – of – way  ROW–Brush mowing – JD 6410 was off line for a week due to a front planetary failing. From what the mechanic could see, it appeared the seal inside the planetary dried out and allowed the fluid to leak out. Areas brush mowed – 185th, 230th, 228th, Kirk, Morgan, Oldfield, Nolan, and Ozark, Penrose, 209th area. The brush mowing will continue in February as time allows.  ROW - Trees – Staff is continuing the process of pruning branches in the ROW coming in contact with trucks and maintenance equipment – 190th, Olinda Ln, Larkspur, Langley, Layton, 181st, 182nd, Maple St., 199th, Quint, and 196th partially completed. The process will continue as soon as snow tasks are completed. Next on the list for PW to prune is LakamagaTrail. Request for quotes from contractors have been sent out for ROW pruning through all of Bliss addition.  Snow – 4 events that snow removal trucks were sent our early to address snow, icy roads, and re-freeze conditions. Gravel roads are gritted every Monday and Friday and midweek as needed - 11 times in January. Sidewalks cleared 3 times.  Fleet – The first WEX fuel card bill was submitted. Sewer – Water:  January ‘19 – sewer samples were taken at Bliss  201 – December monthly DMR completed  SCADA – The heaters in the cabinets could not compete with the cold temperatures so I purchased additional heaters to put in the boxes to keep the computer relays functioning. All working well so far.  Uptown – STS services from Washington Co., at no cost, cleared back brush and trees that had been encroaching on the drain field for many years.  Three alarms at homes in the Bliss. The lines were frozen at the top of the outlet pipes near the ground surface. The extreme cold weather contributed to the issue as well as the possibility the weep holes were plugged. 1-20-19 – Neighbor called, an alarm going off in the neighborhood. All PW Staff was called and no response from them so I addressed the call myself. The resident had turned of the breaker so I could not find the home. Another alarm the next day. Rick responded and was dispatched. Other frozen lines were attended to during regular hours.  Warming house – Vinterfest – 1-26-19 – There was a sewer back up in the warming house and then an alarm at Bliss lift station #3 with a high-level alarm within 15 minutes of one another. I called Smilie’s right away for the sewer backup and then called Jeff and Rick for help. No response for over 45 minutes so I responded and met Smilie’s at the warming house and respond to the alarm. Rick responded later and was over an hour and a half away. He noted unless he was paid to be “on call” the Union told them they didn’t have to respond. This has since been addressed.  Washington Co. monthly sewer report completed  Uptown - Monthly water meter readings completed  8 Gopher One call requests Parks:  Rinks flooded, opened, closed – re-opened – prep for Vinterfest  WIP – STS done with what they can do during the winter at WIP  Path re-aligned to T-Ball field  Rink ad was installed. It took just over an hour to install including travel time, equipment set up, drilling, and setting punch rivets. It is a two-person task to complete the installation.  Vinterfest tasks were completed – Coordination occurred between Cory Roberts, the Lions, and Ben Johnson the “Zamboni-man”. Staff and volunteers were also key in the events success.  Additional research on the ramps – Quotes were high and further resources for suppliers are being researched.  Staff has applied for Scott’s turf Ballfield grant for the South field to address the low area in the right field corner. Other:  The new holiday decorations for the downtown lights have arrived and are in the cold storage building.  Holiday decorations set up by PW in the community center were taken down
