3.c Discussion on proposals for Administrator recruitment

Re: City Administrator Recruitment
Background: At the February work session the Council directed staff to obtain proposal from
executive search firms for recruitment assistance. Inquiries were sent to Springsted Inc., Hue.Life
(formerly Brimeyer Fursman), David Drown and Associates, and GovHR USA. All of these firms
have experience in recruiting for City Administrator and City Manager positions. Proposals
were received from David Drown and Associates, and GovHR USA. Council took no action at the
meeting in the absence of Mayor Maefsky.
Follow-up calls were made to Springsted and Hue.Life. Springsted declined to submit a
proposal due to their current commitments. Hue.Life declined for the same reason; however,
due to a change in their commitments they have submitted a proposal.
Issue:
How would the Council like to proceed with filling the City Administrator position?
Proposal Details:
Copies of the proposals received follow this cover report. A comparison of the timelines from
the proposals is on the 2nd page of this report.
Options:
1) Accept one of the proposals received
2) Interview the firms that submitted proposals
3) Handle the hiring process in house and utilize on-line resources to advertise the position
4) Do not fill the position at this time.
5) Look at other staffing alternatives
