Public Works Staff Report – February 2019
Roads and Right – of – way
ROW–Brush mowing – The main objective this last month was to keep
snow pushed back to allow for more storage.
ROW - Trees – Staff removed dead branches / trees from Lakamaga
and Maxwill, and Quint
Snow – We had thirteen days of plowing, winging, and deicing of roads
in the month of February. Staff had three occasions where they plowed
in the afternoon and then needed to come in early the next day to finish
plowing the snowfall that continued.
Fleet - Public Works is having mechanical and computer issues with
the tandem plow truck. The emissions system is telling the computer
to shut down the truck into what is called limp mode. In limp mode the
truck can not exceed 5 mph in speed. The NUSS Mack dealer is
performing the work. The truck also had failure of the rear brakes.
The slack adjusters were backing themselves off and creating more
clearance between the pads and the drums. Diesel Rocker fixed that
mechanical problem.
Sewer – Water:
February ‘19 – sewer samples were taken at Bliss
201 – January monthly DMR completed
Uptown – Director of PW noted the alarm on the lift station was
alarming more than usual. After consultation with the engineers, the
pumping time was increased and how often the pump ran was
decreased to match the flow reported at the system. This should
provide more accurate flow reports and minimize alarms by the
system.
Washington Co. monthly sewer report completed
Uptown - Monthly water meter readings completed
2 Gopher One call requests
Parks:
Vinterfest preparations have been put back in order. The hockey rink
doors are open again, barricades and recycling containers returned to
storage, and the signs on the 4 entrances to town were removed and
stored in cold storage.
Ben continued for the week of 2-18-19 through 2-25-19. The position
is a 67-day appointment by the city and staff will need to save some
days for next year to help with flooding. We thank him for his fine
services.
Plowed Park’s two paved parking lots 4 times. The Lilleskogen snow
piles were getting large so PW moved snow to the East side of the
parking lot.
Staff caught rubber from the Vinterfest mats in the vertical auger
which feeds the snow from the conditioner into the hopper. The
rubber has been removed after some negotiating with the machine to
give it up.
Other:
The new holiday decorations for the downtown lights have arrived
and are in the cold storage building.
Downtown Holiday decorations on the light poles removed by PW
staff.
Roof raking performed on the City Hall buildings and on the warming
house.
