5.c) Public Works Staff ReportSCANDIA
April 2019 report
PW Staff report:
Skate Park equipment:
5-6-19
The equipment has been ordered. Half down payment is being issued to the company
during the next City's check cycle to secure the order. Delivery of the equipment is 45 to
60 days out at this time.
SHIP Grant submitted:
The SHIP grant for the bike station and some improvements to the warming house has
been approved. Staff, Carol, and Janie are meeting with Kim Ball on May 10th to go
through the processes and procedures required by the city in regards to funding
reimbursement, receipt and billing tracking, and documentation.
Hay Lake Pavilion Water:
I met with the Inspector for the MDH. He provided me with a list of items that need to be
addressed by the Historical Society before entering into any type of agreement with
them. He highly recommended we consider ourselves a renter of the system and not a
partial owner.
Summer Part-time employee:
The ad is out and posted on the City's website. There are no applicants at this time.
Hay Lake monument:
Trees have been pruned and the light is installed. Staff changed out the line on the flag
poles and attached new flags for the year.
Grant for Lilleskogen:
The DNR grant has been approved for Lilleskogen canary grass removal and buckthorn
eradication. The next steps are similar to those in the SHIP grant. Staff will be seeking
quotes to begin the process according to the plan submitted in the grant.
Lighted Ballfield:
Staff is making arrangements with contractors to meet on site and discuss the
placement of concrete pads under the bleacher project. The adult women's' softball
teams have submitted their schedule and men's fast pitch has also reserved the field.
The Forest Lake Area Athletic Association contacted the City about working on the
Barton / Johnson field and prepare it for them. Staff suggested using the lighted field
instead since it would save time and expenses. It was coordinated and the FLAAAS will
be using the lighted field for their games. Staff also approached Linda Carpa with the
adult womens softball association to inform any interested parties that there is open
space for advertising at a reasonable price on the outfield fence.
South Field:
Scotts Field Refurbishment Program grant was not successful but on a positive note
they did provide links to other opportunities. Also, I noticed impingement to the flow of
the pond behind the ballfield. Staff worked with the watershed staff to make sure we
didn't need any permits or permissions. There is an existing drainage area and our
cleaning would be considered maintenance and there is no need for watershed
involvement.
