Re: Pump Overhaul of Engine 5176
Background:
When responding to a barn fire on Saturday, March 7th, Engine 5176 began to have some
problems. A service technician was asked to look at it and discovered that the pump is breaking
apart. Engine 5176 is the Fire Department's primary pumper and while it is currently operational,
it requires higher RPMs to run. The pump could break off at any time.
The City of Scandia's purchasing policy requires prior Council approval for any expenditures
over $5,000.
Issue:
Should the City Council approve the repairs to Engine 5176?
Proposal Details:
Included in your packet is an invoice that breaks down the costs to repair the pumper.
Fiscal Impact:
Total costs for repair are $8,365. There is $10,000 budgeted in the fire department in 2015 for
machinery equipment and repair.
Options:
1) Approve expenditure of $8,365 for engine 5176 repair
2) Do not approve expenditure to repair engine 5176
Recommendation:
Option 1.
