Re: Step Increases for Firefighters
Background:
Probationary firefighter pay rate is $10.30/hour with an increase to $11.33 after the 1 year probation.
After probation they also receive a $1.00 increase for each certification to EMT & FF2 (total of $2.00).
They also receive a $100.00 lump sum for completing the course and passing each of their certifications
(EMT, FF1, FF2). Each of these courses are 160 hours that are not paid an hourly wage.
Issue:
Should the fire fighters receive their step increase? Jesse, Shaun, Jeremy & Adrian have completed all
their certifications needed in their first 2 years.
Proposal Details:
• Jesse Bizzotto has completed his probation period, EMT course, EMT certification, FF1 course,
FF2 course and FF2 certification. Increase pay rate from $12.33 to $13.33/hour and $200.00 in
lump sum for course completion and certification.
• Shaun Holtgreve has completed his probation period, EMT course, EMT certification, FF1 course,
FF2 course and FF2 certification. Increase pay rate from $12.33 to $13.33/hour and $200.00 in

FF2 course and FF2 certification. Increase pay rate from $12.33 to $13.33/hour and $200.00 in
lump sum for course completion and certification.
• Patrick McHugh has completed his probation period, FF1 course, FF2 course and FF2
certification. Increase pay rate from $11.33 to $12.33/hour and $200.00 in lump sum for course

budget estimates.
Options:
(1) Increase hourly wage and pay lump sum bonus as stated above.
(2) Increase only select members
(3) No increase
Recommendation:
Option (1).
