Re: Advertising for Seasonal Maintenance Worker for Parks and Grounds
Background:
Under direction of the full-time maintenance staff, the seasonal parks maintenance employee
performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi -skilled tasks necessary to the seasonal
maintenance of grounds, equipment and buildings at city parks and municipal buildings.
Seasonal staff has traditionally been hired for approximately 32 hours a week beginning in late
May and ending in early October.
Issue:
Should the Council approve advertising for a Seasonal Maintenance Worker for Parks and
Grounds?
Proposal Details:
Similar to previous years, staff is requesting the Council authorize staff (City Administrator and
Public Works Director) to advertise and interview the applicants for the position with a
recommendation on hiring coming to the Council in May.
The tentative timeline would be as follows:
Post/ advertise on web site: April 24
Advertise in local papers: May 2
Applications close: Friday, May 8 (4:00 p.m.)
Interviews: Week of May 11
Council Approval: May 19
Start date: ASAP after Council approval
Fiscal Impact:
The 2014 pay rate for the position was set at $10.20 to $12.25 per hour, depending on
qualifications. The budget is sufficient to cover the pay rate for up to 67 working days. The
position will terminate at the end of the grounds maintenance season.
Options:
1) Approve having staff advertise and interview for the Part -Time Seasonal Parks
Maintenance Worker position.
2) Approve having the Council complete the interviews
3) Do not approve the advertising for the Part -Time Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker
position.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
