Re: Tax Forfeited Parcel
Background:
Included in your packet is a letter from the County regarding a tax forfeited parcel in Scandia.
The parcel is located in the Scandia Ranchette's development at the intersection of 237th St and
Novak Ave. I've also included an aerial view of the property from our GIS which labels it as
park land and a letter from Vernon Jellum, New Scandia Planning Commission Chair in 1972.
His letter indicates the property was supposed to be dedicate to the township at the time of
subdivision. Minutes show the Town Board approved the Planning Commission's
recommendation in 1972 with respect to the dedication of Outlot A.
Issue:
Should the City request the parcel be given to the City under the free of charge provisions and it
remain a park that meets the public use requirements?
Proposal Details:
Given that the Outlot was supposed to be dedicated to the township in 1972, staff would
recommend the Council notify the County of their desire to obtain it free of charge. The parcel
would have to continue to meet the authorized public use required by statute.
Options:
1) Direct staff to notify County City would like to obtain parcel free of charge.
2) Direct staff to notify County the City is not interested on obtaining the parcel.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
