9.a Log House Landing Signage ProposalLog House Landing Signage Proposal
Friends of Log House Landing is requesting permission to erect a visible sign at the Log House Landing
boat ramp that notifies boaters of National Park Service Speed Regulations. We are proposing a large
single sided sign (approx. 48" by 32"). See attached suggested design
The information/language on the proposed sign is taken from language posted at William O'Brien and is
very similar to the language currently posted on the National Park Service LHL sign located on the DNR
marquee. See attached.
The Speed Regulation posting on the existing National Park Service sign at LHL is only a few inches in size
and gets lost on the very large background and among multiple signs. Based on conversations with
dozens of boaters who launch at the landing, this signage is insufficient. Few, if any, boaters know that
the area south of the hydroelectric dam in Taylors Falls/St. Croix Falls to the Arcola Sandbar is
designated a SLOW SPEED zone. Motorboats may only create a MINIMAL WAKE. And the speed
drops to a NO WAKE when 1) near paddlers, 2) within 100 feet of shore 3) within 100 feet of
swimmers.
Not only can high speeds be dangerous to paddlers and swimmers, but the wakes these speeding boats
create also causes significant shoreline erosion. See DNR Press release dated 6/13/19.
We would like to work with the City of Scandia on sign placement and funding. Thank you for your
consideration.
