6. St Croix River letter to support no wakes August 7, 2019 Keith Parker, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources keith.parker@state.mn.us Dan Baumann, State of Wisconsin Dan.Baumann@wisconsin.gov; Julie Galonska, National Park Service julie_galonska@nps.gov Dear Chairman Parker and Lower St. Croix River Management Commissioners, The eastern border of Scandia fronts the St. Croix Scenic Riverway. We have been hearing concerns from our citizens regarding the apparent confusion of wake-related regulations, and understand that you have received a presentation and background information regarding the potential effects of boat -generated wakes on the Scenic Riverway. We have also reviewed the white paper “Wakes on the St. Croix Scenic Riverway” and discussed the topic of wakes at a recent City Council meeting. There is a need to clarify the regulations. We are contacting you to express interest, and to encourage the Lower St. Croix River Management Commission to address these matters. The City of Scandia supports the recommendation that a stakeholder group be created to review the issues raised in the white paper, and if confirmed, develop recommendations to address them. Sincerely, Mayor Christine Maefsky Council Members Chris Ness, Steve Kronmiller, Patti Ray, Jerry Cusick 14727 209 th St. N., Scandia, Minnesota 55073 Phone (651) 433 -2274 Fax (651) 433 -5112 http://www.ci.scandia.mn.us
