Re: Midco Internet Service for City Hall/Community Center/Warming House
Background:
The City is mid-way through a five-year subscription with Midco for Internet service (MBX 75)
that provides download/upload speeds of 75 x 7; the lowest business package. With the
installation of the cameras on the warming house, we have noticed there is a lag in the video as
the internet speeds are so low. Additionally, there has been problems streaming video at
events in the Community Center (Lions Kentucky Derby). Even with the wifi boosted to the
parking lot for Taco Daze, the lower speed most likely will negatively affect the vendors
experience for processing sales transactions.
Issue:
Should the City increase their internet speeds to provide better support for video downloads
for the City and other uses of the Community Center and Warming House?
Fiscal Impact:
Midco Broadband Internet Services available:
Options:
1) Upgrade the City’s internet service to plan MBX 200 for $165 per month.
2) Do not approve the upgrade and expenditure.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
