Staff Report
Date of Meeting: September 17, 2019
To: City Council
From: Brenda Eklund, Deputy Clerk
Re: Hire Office Assistant/Recreation Program Coordinator
Background:
The Council approved staff to begin the process to hire a new office assistant in August
following the resignation of the previous office assistant. Five applications were received. The
Deputy Clerk and Mayor Maefsky interviewed three candidates on August 28th. The position
was offered to Katherine Koschak, who accepted and was approved for hiring by the Council on
September 4, 2019. On September 9th, Ms. Koschak provided notice that due to family matters,
she had to withdraw her acceptance for the position. One of the other candidates who was
interviewed and scored highly for the position is Brenda Stignani. An offer was made to Ms.
Stignani who has accepted the position of Office Assistant/Recreation Program Coordinator.
Issue:
Should the Council hire Stignani as Office Assistant/Recreation Program Coordinator?
Proposal Details:
Staff is recommending that Brenda Stignani be hired as the Office Assistant/Recreation Program
Coordinator at a pay rate of $16.10/hour. Ms. Stignani has experience in the skills necessary to
perform the functions of the job.
The pre-employment background check is in process. If approved for hiring, Ms. Koschak would
begin orientation work for a few hours this week, and begin a regular schedule of work on
Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
Options:
1) Approve hiring Brenda Stignani as the Office Assistant/Recreation Program Coordinator
at a pay rate of $16.10/hour, conditioned on clean results of the background check.
2) Approve hiring Brenda Stignani as Office Assistant/Recreation Program Coordinator at a
different pay rate.
3) Direct staff to continue search and review other applicants.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
