Dear Chairman Parker and Commissioners,
The entire eastern border of Scandia fronts the St. Croix Scenic Riverway. We have been hearing
concerns about wake-related matters from our citizens, and understand that you have received a
presentation and background information regarding the potential effects of boat-generated wakes on
the Scenic Riverway. We have discussed the topic of wakes at a recent City Council meeting and
workshop.
The Council feels there is a need to increase public awareness of the objectives of the Cooperative
Management Plan for the Lower St. Croix River (2002), and in particular the intent of “Quiet Waters”
and “Natural Waters” designations. We are contacting you to express our interest, and to encourage
the Lower St. Croix River Management Commission to address these matters. The City of Scandia
supports the recommendation that a stakeholder group be created to review the issues around wake-
related issues on the St. Croix and, as determined to be needed, develop recommendations to address
them.
Thank you.
City of Scandia
Mayor Christine Maefsky
