Re: Langley Ditching Project
Background:
Langley Ave. N. south of 187th has had drainage issues for many years. The ditch is non-existent in
some areas. There are springs in the hillside that impact the roads in the winter. Ice as thick as three
or 4 inches has developed on the road in sub-zero temperatures. With the new Weibe home being
constructed along this section of Langley, the need for an established ditch is even more important
to assure storm water is being directed through the residential culvert at a correct elevation.
Issue:
Should ditching occur along Langley and should the quote be accepted?
Proposal Details:
Ditching would occur along the West side of Langley Ave. N. f rom midway between 187th to
close to Langley Ct. intersection. The area along side the road would be excavated back two
feet off the road and with a three-foot-wide ditch. All disturbed area would be seeded and
covered with erosion blanket. Soil would be stock piled at the public works shop for future use.
An RFQ was sent out to RE Peterson Co. in Lindstrom, Peterson Co. in Wyoming, Olson
Excavation in Forest Lake, Peterson Excavation Inc. Dresser WI., and Scandia Excavating in
Scandia. The only quote staff received back was from Peterson Excavation Inc. for $14,855.15.
Fiscal Impact:
$14,855.15 would come from the 405 fund which is for contractual road maintenance and
repairs. Current balance is $77,063.37.
Options:
1.) Approve the ditching needed for storm water remediation
2.) Don’t approve the ditching
Recommendation:
Option #1
