7. City Vinterlights! SupportDate: 10/2/19 To: Scandia City Council From: Christine Maefsky Mayor Re: City Support for Vinterlights! Last year, Vinterlights! was a successful celebration of Scandia residents as they came together to kick off the holiday season in our community. Close to 150 people participated in this inaugural event. This year plans are to expand the celebration, including an arts and crafts fair at the community center preceding the Vinterlights! lighting, Dala Horse and Snowflake cookies donated by the Bone Lake Association, and the expansion of the lighting itself. Last year the Lions supported the City’s efforts by paying for a company to light up part of the Community Center and all of the warming house using their lights at a cost of $2,100. This year, Tom Helke has volunteered to put lights on the large evergreen tree outside of the Community Center entrance. He has also agreed to contract with the City to put city owned lights on two sides of the community center, all of the warming house, two sides of the large storage building and the trunks of the island trees in the parking lot at a cost of $1,500. Lions Club members who are part of the Vinterlights! Committee are asking the club to buy lights for the City with the understanding that the City will pay for the installation of the lights. Proposal and Recommendation: Scandia will pay up to $2,000 for the installation of holiday lights around the Community Center complex.
