5 b Public Works Report PW Staff report: September 2019 report 10-9-19 To: PRC From: Director of Public Works – Adam Hawkinson Lilleskogen: Staff prepared a staff report for council to accept a quote from Prairie Restorations to proceed with the invasive species removal supported by the Lilleskogen grant through the DNR. One application of herbicide and the first steps toward the removal of invasive plants was completed last week. The bases for fastening the storyboards were completed several weeks ago. The storyboard signs were installed the last day of September. Patti Ray has noted she would like a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new feature. The Friends of Scandia Parks and Tails added some more plantings to the corner Butterfly Garden plot. They are hopeful they will take root yet this fall and help fill out the space. Lighted Ballfield: Staff is working with the concrete contractor to have the pads poured as soon a possible to get a good set. The old bleachers with be disposed of by means the city council decides after discussing the staff proposal for liquidating replaced assets. A new tree has been planted to add shade to the concession stand in the future. Hay Lake Pavilion: Water Washington County Hist. Soc. had responded in August but there has been no update since. SHIP Grant – Cycling Scandia – Warming House: Staff installed the bike repair station and the bike rack for cyclist. The drinking fountain and water dispenser was also replaced due to it being defective. The shelters open hours were adjusted to 9am - 4:30 pm with the days getting shorter. WIP: The STS from Washington county has started installing rustic log steps to aid in the path dissemination and walking up the hills in WIP. They will continue with adding about another dozen logs as the time and weather allows. Extra inventory: Staff prepared a report for city council to decide what they want done with the old bleachers from the lighted ballfield and the old used skate park ramps. Hockey Rink: Staff will begin the annual maintenance of the rink. We will be replacing damaged kick plates and one damaged poly board, and work on straightening the access doors. The Zamboni will have the annual full-service maintenance performed. The extra netting for building protection , similar to the east side, will be added to the west side to protect that side of the building.
