Guests: Sally Swanson (City Council Rep), Laurie Monson (Recreation Coordinator), Greg Zauner
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm.
Approval of Agenda: The Agenda was approved.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the December 5, 2011 meeting were approved.
REPORTS
City Council Meeting: The council approved the following committee recommendations:
Signage for the Wayne Erickson Memorial Ball Park
Support for Zach Boesel's Eagle Scout Project — new scoreboard for Wayne Erickson
Memorial Ball Park
Vinterfest Plans
The council also discussed the need for the committee to try and recruit some new members.
Winter Recreation Programs: The skate programs have started. Pleasure Skating is full (25) and
Open Skate has 13 kids signed up. The rink will be closed on 1/10/12 due to warm weather, but the kids
will still come and play outside. Monson will be setting up a meeting with Lakamaga to begin planning
the summer program.
NEW MEMBER DISCUSSIONS
The committee welcomed new member Greg Zauner who officially starts in February, but came tonight
as a guest. The committee also discussed ways to recruit new members. Some feel the Mayor should be
reaching out to community members. Swanson suggested letting the Mayor know if you have a
candidate in mind. Swanson also made up a PRC Handbook with bylaws, duties, functions, etc. She will
make copies for everyone for the next meeting. The committee will hold elections at the next meeting.
There was also some discussion about asking Bildeaux to step down as Chair since he has missed the
past 4 meetings.
PROJECT DISCUSSIONS
Eagle Scout Project: Approved by the council. No other discussion.
Vinterfest: The committee discussed the weather and the fact that we currently have no snow. Lee
said he may be able to get snow hauled in from Wild Mountain. It was decided that if there was still no
snow by 1/25/12 the committee would decide via email on what activities would take place.
Sign for Wayne Erickson Memorial Ball Park: The committee talked about having some kind of
dedication ceremony. A sub -committee of Swanson, White and Rasmussen will start planning this and
select a date.
Permit System at Log House Landing: Lee motioned to table the discussion. White seconded.
Motion passed.
Scandia Community Market: Swanson showed logo samples and discussed market plans and ideas.
The market will probably start in June and run through September at the Gammelgarden on Wednesday
nights from 4-7pm. Once dates are set, Monson will email registration forms to past vendors and place
an ad and/or press release for new vendors. The committee would like to see some kind of written
description of what their responsibilities are for the market.
Lee motioned that the PRC support the Community Market and act as the committee in
charge. White seconded. Motion passed — all in favor.
ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA
Hay Lake Park: The Friends of Scandia Parks would like to make this a trail head for the bike trail.
