Staff Report
Date of Meeting: Nov. 6th, 2019
To: Mayor, City council
From: Adam Hawkinson, Director of Public Works
Re: Lighting modifications – Community Center interior / Exits – Parking Lot Islands
Background:
The Director of Public Works was asked to request quotes for adding receptacles to the light poles
in the parking lot islands to plug in holiday lights, and to add receptacles to the interior of the of the
Community Center for additional holiday light decorating on the inside of the hall. In addition, there
was also a request for additional lighting for the exits to the East off the Heritage Rm. and to the
North off the main hall. Staff contacted Mercury Electric and O’Neil Electric for quotes.
Issue:
Does the City council wish to pursue the lighting updates?
Proposal Details:
The two costs for the updated lighting for the Hall are:
6’ on center drops:
$7226.86 – O’Neil Electric – Drop mount
$6980.00 – O’Neil - Surface mount
12’ on center
$4,526.00 – O’Neil - drop mount
$4,290.00 – O’Neil - surface mount
$5,985.00 - Mercury Electric – surface mount
Exit Spot lights:
$380.00 – O’Neil – replace with LED spot lights
$700.00 – Mercury – add two spot lights off existing lights
Parking Lot Islands:
$800-$900 – O’Neil
$475.00 - Mercury
Fiscal Impact:
There is $6,600 in the building repairs 401 fund for the Community Center that could be used
for the upgrades. Cost of all upgrades using the lowest quoted prices would be $5 ,145.00
Recommendation:
If council wishes to pursue the upgrades, staff recommends Mercury Electric is awarded the
Parking Lot Island lights and O’Neil Electric is awarded the Community Hall receptacle quote at
12’ on center and Exit upgrades.
